Q

Cerebral Peduncles

A

Connects the forebrain with all caudal structures such as pons, medulla, cerebellum etc..
It is part of the mesencephalon (midbrain)

Q

Lateral Fissure

A

Seperates the temporal lobe , from both frontal and parietal lobes.
When it is fissure it means very deep.
Deeper than gyri.

Q

Lateral Ventricles

A

Anterior horn of it is in the frontal and parietal lobes, posterior horn extends into the occipital lobe, inferior horn extends into the temporal lobe.

Q

Association Fibers

A

Connects all parts of the brain within one hemisphere.

So association fibers connect all the lobes.

Q

Projection Fibers

A

Travels between the cortex and the brain stem, allowing the connection of the forebrain with the brain stem and the spinal cord.

13
Q

Superior Longitudinal Fasciculus

A

It is an association fiber.
Connects all the lobes together (Frondal, parietali occipital, temporal).
Important for the integration of sensory information.

14
Q

Arcuate Fasciculus

A

It is also an association fiber and it is part of superior longitudinal fasciculus (just inferior). Fibers enter the temporal lobe.
Arcuate Fasciculus connects the language areas.
Brocas’ area : frontal lobe
Wernickes’ area : parietal and temporal lobe.

15
Q

Ascending and descending fibers

A

They are projection fibers , they connect the forebrain with the brain stem and spinal cord.
Ascending from brain stem to the cortex and descending from cortex to the brain stem.

16
Q

Inferior Occipitofrontal Fasciculus

A

It is an association fiber connecting occipital and frontal lobes.

17
Q

Uncinate Fasciculus

A

Connects the frontal and temporal lobes.

18
Q

Internal Capsule

A

Horizontal view :
Internal capsule is divided into anterior and posterior limbs.
Anterior limb divides the head of the caudate nucleus
from the putamen and globus pallidus.
Posterior limb seperates the thalamus from the putamen and globus pallidus.

19
Q

Limbic Lobe

A

Combination of Cingulate Gyrus and Parahippocampal gyrus.

Anterior swelling of the parahippocampal gyrus : Uncus.

20
Q

Deep structures of the limbic system

A

Hippocampus( memory )and Amygdala ( emotion)
