Laboratory Assessment Flashcards
Cholesterol
Range: <200 mg/dL
Elevation indicates increase risk for CAD
Triglycerides
Female: 35-135 mg/dL
Male: 40-160 mg/dL
Elevation indicates increase risk for CAD
High-Density Lipoproteins (Good cholesterol)
Male: More than 45 mg/dL
Female: More than 55 mg/dL
Elevations protect against CAD
Low-Density Lipoproteins (Bad cholesterol)
Range: Less than 130 mg/dL
Elevation indicated increase risk for CAD
Troponin T
Troponin I
Range: <0.1 ng/mL
Range: <0.03 ng/mL
Elevations indicate myocardial injury or infarction
C-reactive protein (CRP)
Low risk - < 1 mg/L
High risk - > 3 mg/L
Elevation may indicate tissue infarction or damage
PT/PTT/INR
INR – 0.8 – 1.1
Hypokalemia
Effects:
1. Increased Electrical instability
2. Ventricular dysrhthmias
3. Increased risk for digitalis toxicity
Hyperkalemia
Effects:
1. Slowed ventricular conduction
2. Peaked T-waves on ECG
3. Contraction followed by asystole
Hypocalcemia
Effects:
1. Ventricular Dysrhythmias
2. Prolonged QT intervals
3. Cardiac arrest
Hypercalcemia
Effects:
1. Shortens the QT interval
2. Atriocentricular Block
3. Digitalis Hypersensitivity
4. Cardiac Arrest
Hypomagnesemia
Effects:
1. Torsades de Pointes
