Laboratory Flashcards
Beaker
Large-rimmed, open glass container. Not a good choice for measuring volumes.
Graduated Cylinder
Tall cylinder that is more precise than a beaker. Read at bottom of meniscus
Erlenmeyer Flask
Conical flask, narrow neck. Not useful for reading precise volumes
Volumetric Flask
Spherical Flask, narrow neck. Has marking for precise volume. Most often used for dilution of a substance.
Boiling Flask
Spherical flask, narrow neck. Not used to measure volumes
Pipettes
Used to transfer liquids. Precise volume measurements
Burets
Used to deliver titrant to a solution
Test tubes
Not used to measure volumes
Droppers
Small glass tube with a rubber knob on the end. Use to transfer
Equivalence Point
When the moles of titrant equals the moles of analyte
Endpoint
Point at which analyte changes color. Often close to equivalence point
What does calorimetry measure?
Heat
