-teachers tended to se them as immature rather than seriously deviant
-much of their behaviour was ignored and they weren’t punished to the extend that Black boys were
-the south asian boys had difficulty gaining status as males which made it hared for them to feel confident and enjoy school.
-teachers had high expectations and were often praised and encouraged.
black girls response to their labels

-they rejects the help of teachers which they see as patronising. this, as well as the limited involvement in lessons puts black girls at a disadvantage.
-a group that she studied used their rejection by school to motivate them to be successful and get good grades.
Afro- Caribbean labels
-disruptive and badly behaved
-were punished more and were at more of a risk of being excluded even when these labels weren’t true.
-seen as a threat to classroom management.
-more focus on their behaviour and their education
Asians labels
-quiet and excluded from conversations
-girls were invisible to teachers and received less attention
-high educational expectations
