educational policies Flashcards
free schools
as part of the academies act, religious groups, parents and teachers were able to set up a school that was free for all the attend- they didn’t have to follow the national curriculum.
selection doesn’t benefit WC children as they are less likely to be chosen to attend the school and widens the inequality act.
the academies act
2010- the coalition government decided all schools that achieve an ‘outstanding’ OFSTED were able to adopt the academy status. they were dependent from local authority which created opportunities for the private sector as some academies were operated in chains and run like businesses.
schools which were ‘satisfactory’ or below were forced to convert to academies despite parents not wanting it to. Failing schools either shut down or taken under sponsorship of other academies.
free schools and academies reduced the budget available for existing school, widening inequalities.
