Q

Nerves that originate from the lumbar plexus?

A
  1. Iliohypogastric and ilioinguinal nerves
  2. Genitofemoral nerve
  3. Femoral nerve
  4. Lateral femoral cutaneous nerve
  5. Obturator nerve
17
Q

ILIOHYPOGASTRIC AND ILIOINGUINAL NERVES

A

Both supply motor interaction to the trans versus abdominis and internal oblique muscles and sensory to the pelvic area.

18
Q

GENITOFEMORAL NERVE

A

Supply the cremaster muscle in males and the skin around the anteromedial thigh and genitals in both sexes.

19
Q

FEMORAL NERVE

A

Largest nerve of the lumbar plexus. Provides motor interaction to most of the anterior thigh muscles that extend the knee and sensory innervation to the skin of the anterior and medial thigh. It gives off a large sensory branch called the saphenous nerve m, which supplies the knee joint, medial leg, and foot.

20
Q

LATERAL FEMORAL CUTANEOUS NERVE

A

Provides mainly sensory innervation to the skin of the anterolateral thigh.

21
Q

OBTURATOR NERVE

A

Located in the medial thigh, where it supplies the medial thigh muscles and the skin of the proximal, medial thigh.

22
Q

Sacral plexus consists of?

A

Anterior rami of L4 - S4.

23
Q

Nerves that originate from the sacral plexus?

A
  1. Superior gluteal nerve
  2. Inferior gluteal nerve
  3. Pudendal nerve
  4. Posterior femoral cutaneous nerve
  5. Sciatic nerve
24
Q

SUPERIOR GLUTEAL NERVE

A

The first branch of the sacral plexus is the superior gluteal nerve, which supplies the gluteus medius, the gluteus minimus, and tensor fascia lata muscles.

25
Q

INFERIOR GLUTEAL NERVE

A

Supplies the gluteus maximus muscle

26
Q

PUDENDAL NERVE

A

Inner area the muscles of the pelvic floor and anogenital sphincters and provides sensory innervation to genitalia

27
Q

POSTERIOR FEMORAL CUTANEOUS NERVE

A

Located in the posterior thigh where it provides sensory innervation to the skin

28
Q

SCIATIC NERVE

A

The largest nerve of the sacral plexus and the largest nerve in the body. Splits into two branches: the tibial nerve and the common fibulae nerve, and gives off a small superficial sensory branch, the aural nerve.
