How do you probe?
Hold side probe tip flat against the tooth surface, probe parallel to long axis of tooth for vertical insertion. Slide probe vertically down to base of pocket, maintain contact to side of tooth using a walking stroke, and count mm that show the probe on gingival margin and subtract from total number.

- XP23/QOW7 (Shepherd’s hook) examines pits/fissures. supragingival smooth surfaces and examines surfaces and margins of restorations and sealants.
- EXD11/12 (A7/Pigtail) used in proximal surfaces for calculus, caries or margins of restorations.
