Step One
Wash Hands
Step Two
identify the pt and introduce yourself
Step Three
Explain the rationale for performance of the procedure, and instruct the pt to remove any heavy clothing and shoes
Step Four
place a paper towel on the scale platform
Step Five
Assist pt to the center of the scale
Step Six
move the lower weight bar (measured in 50lb increments) to the estimated number and slowly slide the upper bar until the balance beam point is centered
Step Seven
read the weight by adding the upper bar measurement to the lower bar measurement. round to the nearest 1/4 lb.
Step Eight
raise the measuring bar beyond the pts height and life the extension
Step Nine
Lower measuring bar until firmly resting on top of pts head
Step Ten
assist pt off the scale and allow the pt to sit and put on shoes
Step Eleven
read line where measurement falls, round to the nearest 1/4 inch
Step Twelve
lower measuring bar to its original position and return the weights to zero
Step Thirteen
