Endomysium, perimysium, epimysium
Hierarchy of Muscles (smallest to largest)
myofibril, muscle fiber, fascicle, muscle
convergent fascicle
muscle fascicles extending over a broad area come together, or converge, on a common attachment site.
parallel fascicle
the fascicles are parallel to the long axis of the muscle. Most of the skeletal muscles in the body are parallel muscles.
pennate fascicle
the fascicles form a common angle with the tendon. Because the muscle fibers pull at an angle, contracting pennate muscles do not move their tendons as far as parallel muscles do.
circular fascicle
concentrically arranged around an opening.
