Confirm name & D.O.B by asking and cross-referencing with requisition and patient wristband if applicable

Test order form, lists which tests are bring performed & used to determine which tubes to use

Patient Prep
Hold out arm, tourniquet, palpate to locate vein, remove tourniquet, apply alcohol swab, gather materials, re-tourniquet, begin draw
Angle of Insertion
30 degrees or less
Anchor Veins
Holding down vein below site of venipuncture to stabilize vein
Three Acceptable Veins
Median Cubital: ideal because stable, easy to locate, fewer nerve endings
