Lab practical 1 Flashcards
tidal volume
normal volume of air displaced between normal inhalation and exhalation when no extra effort applied (quiet breathing)
IRV
additional amount of air that can be inhaled after normal inspiration (difference between max inspiration and TV)
ERV
the amount of air above normal breath, exhaled during a forceful breath out
RV
the amount of air that remains in the lungs after fully exhaling (keep lungs open)
vital capacity
greatest volume of air expelled from lungs after taking deepest breath possible
inspiratory capacity
max volume of air that can be inspired after normal expiration
functional residual capacity
volume of air left in lungs at the end of passive expiration
total lung capacity
volume of air in the lungs at the end of max inspiration
total lung capacity equation
TLC= IRV +TV + ERV= RV
