Lab Material Flashcards
Abnormal result of whisper test
Pt gets 4/6 letters or numbers wrong
Weber test: explain
Tuning fork on top of pts head -> if sound lateralizes to one ear, there is some sort of hearing loss
Rinne test
Step 1: vibrating tuning fork on mastoid bone
Step 2: when pt can no longer hear sound, place fork close to ear and see how long they can hear that
Results: if bone conduction greater than air conduction -> conductive hearing loss; if air conduction better (nl result), pt may have sensorineural hearing loss in opposite ear
Abnormal characteristics of LNs
Large, irregular shape, hard, tender, fixed
Other name for Mandibular drainage technique
Galbreath technique
How to do submandibular drainage
Place fingers below inferior rim of mandible and perform MFR
Middle ear anterior and posterior Chapman pt
Anterior: Medial 1/3 of clavicle
Posterior: occuput, 2cm lateral to midline
Sinuses anterior and posterior chapman point
anterior: Inferior medial clavicle, superior border of rib 2
Posterior: below occipitalis, lateral to SP of C2
Larynx anterior Chapman point
rib 2 costochondral junction
Tonsils anterior Chapman point
Between ribs 1+2, just lateral to manubrium
Tongue anterior Chapman point
1st rib junction with sternum
Tongue/pharynx/larynx posterior chapman point
Lateral to SP C2
Decreased or increased vibrations with tactile fremitus means?
Decreased vibrations: COPD, pleural changes (effusion, fibrosis, tumor)
Increased vibrations: PNA
When do use the diaphragmatic excursion test?
When suspecting pleural effusion or high diaphragm
Normal diaphragmatic excursion size
3-5.5cm
