Lab learning Flashcards
Cell layers Names
Stratified (multiple) or simple (1) , pseudostratified (looks mutliple but 1)
Cell shape names
Squamous (flatterned), columbar, cuboidal, spindle-shaped
Histological stain name
Haematoxylin and eosin
Hematoxylin
Basophyllic, stains purple, stains acidic components such as nucleous and mitochondria
Eosin
Eosinphyllic, stains pink, stains basic things like cytoplasma and collagen
Endothelium
Flatterened squamous like endothelial cells, Line heart and blood vessels.
Uroepithelium
Lines distal portion of urinary bladder made with umbrella cells that contact the urine.
Stratum corneum
Outermost layer of the epithelium. Lack nucleous and are heavily keratinsied, shed from skin. Protects inner layers of skin, dead skin cells
Stratum Granulosum
Bellow stratum corneium, containing basophillic cells that aggrigate keratin filaments
Stratum spinosum
Thick layer of polygonal cells below S. Granulosum and above S. basale.
Stratum Basale
Basal layer 1 cell deep. Include stem cells and daughter cells.
Dermal Papillae
Finger like projections between epidermis and dermis
Dermis
Eosinophillic, bundles of collagen (fibrous connective tissue) and spindle shaped fibroblasts.
Sebacous glands vs Sweat glands
Sebacious- secrete sebum which coats skin and hair. gland found near hair follicle
Sweat gland- Coiled glands that reach to upper hyperdermis and secrete waste products
Functions of skin
Protection, heat regulation, secretion, sensation, absorption (vit D)
