LAB FINAL - VASCULAR LABS Flashcards
What are the 3 layers of a blood vessel?
1) Tunica Interna 2) Tunica Media 3) Tunica Externa
What does the Tunica Interna layer consist of?
Endothelium, Collagen fibers, elastin fibers
What does the Tunica Externa layer consist of?
Elastin and collagen fibers, nerves and vasa vasorum (Small vessels which supply walls of large vessel)
What does the Tunica Media layer consist of?
Smooth muscle cells and elastin fibers
List the flow of blood through the systemic vascular tree…
Heart, Elastic arteries, muscular arteries, arterioles, capillaries, venules, muscular venuals, veins, heart
Which blood vessels DO NOT consist of 3 layers?
Capillaries and post capillary venules. This is to allow a smaller diffusion distance to permit the movement of nutrients and wastes.
What are the 3 types of capillaries?
Continuous, Fenestrated and Sinusoids
Structure of Continuous capillary …
Plasma membrane is continuous and only interrupted by intercellular clefts
** Found in central nervous system, lungs, muscle tissue and skin **
Structure of Fenestrated capillaries…
Plasma membrane contains multiple pores
** Found in Kidneys, microvilli of small intestine, most endocrine glands **
Structure of Sinusoid capillaries…
Contains large pores and large intercellular clefts
**Found in Liver, Anterior Pituitary, parathyroid gland, Adrenal glad **
Systemic circulation refers to…
Blood vessels carrying oxygenated and deoxygenated blood to/from the tissues throughout the body EXCEPT for the lungs
Pulmonary circulation refers to…
Blood vessels which carry deoxygenated blood from the heart to the lungs, and oxygenated blood back to the heart
Following the ascending aorta, the major branches of the aorta include…
1) Aortic Arch
2) Thoratic Aorta
3) Abdominal Aorta
What is the circle of Willis?
A circle of arteries in the brain
Which 3 veins drain the head?
Internal jugular vein, External jugular vein and vertebral vein
Which major veins do the Internal jugular vein, External jugular vein and vertebral vein, drain into?
Superior Vena cava
From which vein is blood often drawn from?
Median Cubital vein
What tissue does the Pericardial branch supply?
Pericadial Sac surrounding the heart
What tissue does the Bronchial branch supply?
Lung tissues
What tissue does the Esophageal branch supply?
Esophagus tissues
What tissue does the Mediastinal branch supply?
Tissues of the mediastinum including connective tissues and lymph nodes
What tissue does the Posterior intercostal branch supply?
Upper thoratic wall, Majority of thoartic vertebra
What tissue does the Subcostal branch supply?
Lower thoratic wall, 12th thoratic vertebra
What tissue does the Superior Phrenic branch supply?
Diaphragm and its pleura
Venous blood from the thorax drains into which major vein?
Superior Vena Cava.
Which vein drains into the hapatic vein? From what organs does this vein receive blood flow from?
Hepatic portal vein. From Stomach, liver, gallbladder, spleen, pancreas, small and large intestine and rectum.
