LAB - Diagnostic Bacteriology Flashcards
cystitis
inflammation of the bladder
glomerulonephritis
inflammation and damage to the filtering part of the kidneys (glomerulus). It can come on quickly or over a longer period of time. Toxins, metabolic wastes, and excess fluid are not properly filtered into the urine. Instead, they build up in the body causing swelling and fatigue.
non-specific urethritis
any inflammation of a man’s urethra (the tube that carries urine from the bladder to the outside) that is not caused by gonorrhoea (a sexually transmissible infection)
pyelonephritis
Kidney infection (pyelonephritis) is a type of urinary tract infection (UTI) that generally begins in your urethra or bladder and travels to one or both of your kidneys
CLED agar
- non-selective nutrient agar
- used for total count
- allows growth of cystine-dependent coliforms
- electrolyte-deficient to prevent Proteus from swaming
- lactose and bromothymol blue to differentiate between LF & NLF
MAC
- selective and differential
- allows growth of g-b
- inhibits g+c and yeast
