Q

Steps involved in recrystallization process:

A
  1. Selection of suitable solvent for recrystallization of crude organic compound.
  2. Determination of minimum volume of solvent required to dissolve crude compound.
  3. Dissolving the impure (crude) compound in suitable solvent at or near the boiling point of solvent.
  4. Filtration of hot solution for removal of impurities (Optional, depends on type of impurities present, performed in case of insoluble or colored impurities).
  5. Cooling of solution on ice bath to obtain crystals of pure compound.
  6. Filtration (optional), washing and collection of crystals.
  7. Drying of crystals in hot air oven.
  8. Determination of % purity and performing chemical test to determine purity of crystals.
