Lab 5 Flashcards
cellular respiration
the process by which cells convert chemical energy from nutrients like glucose into usable energy (ATP) by breaking down these molecules in the presence of oxygen, releasing carbon dioxide and water as waste products
ATP
the source of energy for use and storage at the cellular level
Aerobic respiration
A chemical process in which oxygen is used to make energy from carbohydrates (sugars). Also called aerobic metabolism, cell respiration, and oxidative metabolism.
Anaerobic respiration
a metabolic process where organisms generate energy without using oxygen as the final electron acceptor
Fermentation
the process in which a substance breaks down into a simpler substance.
Ethanol
a plant fermentation by-product which is natural and it can also be produced through the hydration of ethylene
NADH
FADH2
Substrate-level phosphorylation
Oxidative phosphorylation
