what is the equipment we need for wound irrigation and packing?
A
- Irrigant/cleaning solution (volume 1.5 to 2 times the estimated wound volume)
- Irrigation delivery system (as prescribed), depending on amount of pressure desired
- 35-mL syringe with a 19-gauge angiocatheter to facilitate optimum pressure for
cleaning with minimal risk for tissue injury (Bryant & Nix, 2016c) - Personal protective equipment (PPE) (e.g., clean gloves, gown, and goggles if splash or
spray risk exists) - Waterproof underpad if needed
- Dressing supplies (see Tables 39.3 and 40.1)
- Disposable waterproof biohazard bag
- Extra towels and padding (to use to protect bed)
- Wound assessment supplies
