Lab 3 Questions Flashcards

1
Q
  1. A)which type of push-up was best for recruiting the tricep muscle group?
A

Close grip pushups because of the decreased joint angle which causes more cross bridge formation changes, altering the FL:ML ratio to the triceps favour

Q
  1. B) From the arm curl exercises, which was best for training the forearms and which was best for training the biceps?

Q
  1. I) Describe changes in EMG amplitude and change in EMG median frequency:
training with heavy loads for a moderate number of reps
A

Heavy loads the amplitude would go up as the force increases
EMG amplitude would be higher than in light loads
-more type 2 fibers would be activated

Q
  1. II) Describe changes in EMG amplitude and change in EMG median frequency:
Training with light loads for a high number of reps
A

Light loads the median would increase between amplitude and frequency
-low load uses more fast twitch fibers as there is an increase in frequency

Q
  1. Is it appropriate to directly compare the amplitude of EMG signal from two different people during the same exercise?
A

No, because of different size twitch properties, size of contractions and speed of contractions can all differ greatly
-placement of pads can cause differs in results, better contact, noise differences
-a person may have more tissue in the way of the pads

Q
  1. How does muscle activation change if the trunk is inclined (bent forward) during a lunge?
A

Would change since the muscle activation that would be needed for the trunk would be need to be stimulated to keep the torso against gravity, decreasing the activation activity in the legs

Q
  1. How does muscle activation change from doing a lunge by simply going up and down with feet in same position vs walking while doing lunges?
A

Up and down in feet the same direction doesn’t use much activation in legs compared to when taking steps in between
-activation while taking steps would increase because of the plantar flexion and dorsiflexion happening in the Gastroc and sole

Q
  1. A) How does trunk stabilizer muscle activation change during a single set of heavy load squats completed to failure?
A

Trunk stabilizers activation would decrease during a single set of squat exercises to failure because activation would change and focus on the legs as they become increasingly more fatigued

Q
  1. B) Does previous resistance training experience influence trunk activation during fatiguing squat exercises?
A

Yes because as the body becomes more used to working hard, to failure, etc so it would be more prone to resisting fatigue through the type 2as muscle fibers it would have from training
