Lab 1: Part 2: Introduction To The Microscope Flashcards
Base
supports the instrument
Arm
connects the base to the body, allows us to carry the instrument
Oculars = Eyepieces
series of lenses to look through to view the specimen. 10X (magnifies the specimen 10 times the normal size)
Revolving nosepiece
rotates to change objective lenses (holds the objectives)
Scanning Power Objective
- red
- smallest
- 4X lens (total magnification is the ocular magnification times the objective magnification, therefore 40X)
Low Power Objective
- yellow
- 10X lens (total magnification: 100X)
High-Dry Power Objective
- blue
- biggest
- 40X lens (total magnification: 400X)
Stage
holds and supports microscope slide/specimen
Diaphragm = Iris Diaphragm
regulates the amount of light used to view the specimen
Illuminator = Light Source
contains light; shines light through the specimen
Slide Position Adjustment Knob
adjusts the position of the slide on the stage (infront of coarse adjustment knob)
Coarse Adjustment knob = Coarse Focus Knob
used for initial focusing on scanning power objective lens (bigger knob)
Fine Adjustment Knob
used for final focusing (smaller knob) (attached to coarse adjustment knob)
