lab 1 meninges, ventricles, central lobes sulci and gyri Flashcards
dura mater
the outermost membranous covering of the brain and spinal cord
Dural reflections: when the dura mater folds up on itsself to form the falx cerbri/cerebelli, tentorium cerebelli
Dural venous sinuses
dural venous sinuses consists of an outer periosteal layer and an inner meningeal layer, the dural layers are usually fused and but split for the superior and inferior sagittal sinus and the straight sinus
fourth ventricles
CSF drains Laterally via foramina of Luschka and more inferiorly there is a single foramen of Magendie
diencephalon
thalamus
Hypothalamus
Pineal body (melatonin)
Brainstem (midbrain)
divided into roof (tectum) and floor (tegmentum) by cerebral aqueduct
Tectum (roof)- superior and dorsal to cerebral aqueduct 2 pairs of bumps: the corpora quadrigemina
Superior colliculi: upper set of bumps and is for vision
Inferior colliculi: lower set of bumps and is the aurditoru relay and reflex
Tegmentum: inferior ventral cerebral aqueduct, Cerebral peduncles (2 halves of the midbrain) with an interpeduncular fossa in the middle the mamillary bodies and oculomotor nerves are in this space
brainstem (pons and medulla)
pons is under the midbrain
the medulla:
The midline is the the pyrimidal decussion
The pyrimidal decussation splits the 2 medullary pyramids, then laterally is the olives
anterior and posterior commisure
ant: connects the temporal lobes and olfactory bulbs
post: connects the midbrain
