Wheelchair, stair lift, scooter, zimmer frame, walking stick
What are some appliances that support daily living activities
Kettle tipper, jar opener, reaching aid, adaptive clothing
Name some assistive technology
Additional time, enlarged text, adapted computers, signers, longer appointment time, braille, hearing loop
What includes personal care?
Toiletting, dressing, bathing, feeding
Why give personal care?
Boost self-esteem, general confidence, hygiene,
Who provides personal care?
domicillary care workers, care assistants, health care assistants
What equipment can be provided to help personal care?
Hand rails, non slip mats, adapted taps, walk in baths
What are some religious and cultural differences related to cleanliness?
Muslims and Hindus prefer to wash in running water rather than a bath, bidets rather than paper and prefer to be treated and supported by someone of the same size - Sikhs and Rastafarians do not cut hair
Why may people have dietary requirements?
Religious beliefs, physical disorder or personal preferences
What are some religious/ cultural dietary requirements?
Muslims and Jews don’t eat pork, animals must be killed in certain way, halal/ kosher product
Hindus and Sikhs don’t eat beef
What are some personals preference dietary requirements?
Vegetarians don’t eat fish, meat or meat-based products
Vegans don’t eat meat or meat-based products
