Describe intrapsychic
One partner privately thinks about problems with relationship due to dissatisfaction and considers ending it, but doesn’t tell partner yet
Describe dyadic processes
Partner tells the other they feel dissatisfied and want to end it
Either both agree to break up or reconcile if other partner agrees to make changes
Dyadic phase may involve
Marital therapy
Describe social processes
Partners make public and tell their friends and family their relationship is over
F+F take sides and may criticise the former partner
Describe grave dressing
Partners mourn and create account of what the relationship was like and why it broke down
During grave dressing, ex-partners
Publicise accounts of why it broke down, reinterpret their viewpoint of their ex-partner, e.g. “rebellious” becomes “irresponsible”

Resurrection stage is about personal growth and preparing for a new romantic relationship
