Fully informed consent
Briefing is required to ensure participants are fully aware of all tasks
Deception
When information is withheld and participants don’t know the full intentions of the tasks
Debriefing
Researcher provides detailed info at the end of the process and answer any questions and participants should be monitored for negative effects
Right to withdraw
Participants are allowed to leave at any time and all data must be destroyed
Confidentiality
Info disclosed during research process must be kept confidential and participants kept anonymous
Protection participants from harm
- protected from psychological harm e.g. distress
- if there’s potential to harm then approval may be needed
Ethics committee
Psychologists that approve research proposals and ethical issues
Presumptive consent
Consent gained from similar background to participants so consent generalised to actual group
Prior general consent
Gain consent prior to study so consent is valid when the study is carried out
Retrospective consent
Consent after they have participated sometimes participants don’t consent so data’s destroyed
Cost benefit analysis
Potential harm of doing researched is weighed against the potential gains
