L8 - Repeated Measures ANOVA Flashcards
When do you use a repeated measures ANOVA?
Design - within-subjects / repeated measures design
IV - examines differences across 3 or more levels
DV - continuous data (interval or ratio e.g., reaction time, IQ score)
What assumptions are needed for repeated measures ANOVA?
Data should be normally distributed
What does a repeated measures ANOVA do?
Tests the null hypothesis that means are equal across different conditions
How do you calculate a repeated measures ANOVA?
Compares variance between conditions with variance within conditions using the F value
What’s a High F value?
Indicates large variance between conditions and small variance within conditions (likely significant)
What’s a Low F value?
Indicates small variance between conditions and large variance within conditions (likely non-significant)
