• gender differences - females emphasise unhappiness, lack of emotional support and incompatibility for why it ended, men state lack of sex/fun. females want to stay friends, men do not. model needs to acknowledge gender differences
• reductionist/ not accurate - reduced to 4 simple stages in order, unlikely that this could happen, rs breakdown is unpredictable and happens in diff orders. e.g. break up make up break up etc
