L7 - Nervous and Endocrine Systems Flashcards
What is the name of the brain like structure in the head of an insect?
Supra-oesophageal ganglion
What are the gangion names outside of the head?
Sub- oesophageal ganglions, T1-T10
How many ganglions are there?
1 per body segment
What 3 ganglia make up the insect brain?
Protocerebrum H1 = processing signals arriving from the ocelli and compound eyes via the optic lobes
Deutrocerebrum H2 = processing signals arriving from the antenna
Tritocerebrum H3 = processing signals arriving from the head and body
What is H0?
The archecerebrum
What are the 5 types of sense organ?
1) mechano receptors
2) Auditory receptors
3) Chemoreceptors
4) Temperature and Humidity receptors
5) Photoreceptors
Where are auditory receptors found in:
a_ Hemiptera
b) cockroaches and crickets
c) locusts
a) Hemiptera - antenna - in drosophila it detects airbourne vibrations
b) cersi
c) 1st abdominal segment
Where are chemoreceptors found usally, and how do mosquitos use them?
Usually found on the antenna and mosquitos use them to to smell sweat
