L5 Notes on Data Analysis Flashcards
1
Q
Likert scale
A
is ordinal
2
Q
Why do we use reverse scoring?
A
- To keep respondents alert
3
Q
Drawbacks reverse scoring?
A
Miscomprehension
4
Q
What has to be done with reverse scoring prior to the analysis
A
The scores have to reverted so a 5 on a 1-6 scale become a 2
5
Q
Calculate Reliability
A
cronbach’s alpha
- most used “consistency index”
- increases in number of items
- increases in correlation between items
–> rule of thumb: higher than .7 = internally reliable (ideally above .8)
0 means items are not related
1 only occurs when you use the same item again and again
6
Q
Attention checks
A
- measure of attention to survey
- if not pass, exclude from the analysis
problem: could create a bias because certain participants may be excluded (younger children)
7
Q
How low should the p-value be?
A
- p<= .05 the difference is statistically significant
- p<= .1 the difference is marginally significantly different
