Why has the Rostow Model been criticised?

A

It has been criticised for being just based on European countries and overlooking other ways in which a country could develop.
It also assumes that all countries start with the same resources and other geographical factors(e.g. population, climate).

  • the benefits of the solution will not been seen rapidly (long term)
  • the country will more than likely go into debt from the loans borrowed to fund the scheme
  • jobs are not provided for the local people, instead a lot of machinery and technology is used
  • the end product will be expensive to operate
