Last contact lens check: Any problems since? Redness? Pain? Dryness? Infection?
Discomfort on CL insertion/ sudden onset
Foreign body, damaged lens, decentered lens, conjunctival irritation from chemical.
Remove lens rinse and reinsert, replace lens, recentre, cease lens wear for 24 hours then reinsert.
Discomfort after a period of wear
Lens deposit, lens surface dehydration, trapped debris, toxic reaction to solution, CL related papillary, conjunctivitis (CLPC)
Replace lens, wet or remove, remove rinse and reinsert, remove and seek advise
Discomfort after lens removal
Corneal abrasion, SEAL, corneal inflammation, infection.
Replace lens, wet or remove, remove rinse and reinsert, remove and seek advise
Discomfort periodically
Lens surface drying, environmental factors.
Blink exercise, refit with new material, avoid the environment.
Constant blurred vision
Switched lens, incorrect prescription, residual astigmatism, warped lens.
Switch back, retract and prescribe new lens, refit with RGP, replace lens.
Fluctuating vision
Lens deposit, loose fit, lens inside out.
Replace, refit, correct.
Blurred vision over time
Lens surface drying out, lens deposits.
Wet or replace.
Fluctuating vision each day
CLPC, environment, smoke, low humidity.
High lens replacement frequency, refit moisture retentive materials, avoid environment.
