What does quality of life mean?
A
A measure of how ‘wealthy’ people are, but measure using criteria such as housing, employment and environmental factors rather than income

What are the two types of development?
A
Top-down and bottom-up development

What is top-down development?
A
Development characterised by large projects, which are funded by governments, big companies and wealthy investors. The local community does not have an active role or say in the development.

What is bottom-up development?
A
Development is characterised by smaller projects, usually funded by NGO’s (charities). They involve local people in the planning.

What were reasons against Vision Mumbai?
A
- Many did not have a form of identification that they lived in Dharavi since before 1995 and will loose all livelihood and housing
- They did not want their local communities to get destroyed
- Rent costs more than living in the slum
- Small businesses are forced to close
