What are the arguments against breaking ethical principles?
A
- pps may experience physical or psychological harm
- pps may leave study in different state entered
- may be difficult to replicate study if ethical principles not upheld (bad reputation so people won’t go)
- can damage reputation of psychology

What are the arguments for breaking ethical principles?
A
- Deception may be used to make situation more realistic. Establish ecological validity but integrity compromised.
- avoid demanding characteristics (pps behave more naturally by compromise respect)
- pps suffer stress discomfort to allow for difficult/controversial matters to be investigated for greater good. Cost benefit analysis
- confidentiality pps need identified so can receive support/intervention when at risk harm
