L4 Flashcards
The common knowledge of rationality assumption.
PARSIMONY (CHEAPNESS)
Used to produce a wide variety of decisive theories, whose predictions about the measurable real world phenomena rule out a much larger set of outcomes that what is already general.
PREDICTIVE
What are the 3 Mental Levels of Life?
UNCONSCIOUS, PRECONSCIOUS, CONSCIOUS
What are the 5 Assumptions of the Rational Choice Theory?
INDIVIDUALISM, OPTIMALITY, STRUCTURES, SELF-REGARDING INTEREST, RATIONALITY
It states that the actions of an individual is concerned entirely with his/her own welfare.
SELF-REGARDING INTEREST
It stores all the thoughts of which you could bring into consciousness fairly easily if you wanted to. Thoughts can be easily recalled without special techniques.
PRECONSCIOUS LEVEL
Dictates a single course of action; merely a special case of the RCT.
STRUCTURES
It is an advantage or profit gained from something.
BENEFIT
___________ is defined as the set of psychological theories and therapeutic techniques that have their origin in work and theories of ___________.
PSYCHOANALYSIS, SIGMUND FREUD
Means that one set of assumptions relating to each type of actor in a given circumstance is compatible with any set of assumptions about the environmental setting in which the actor is present.
GENERALITY
The material that we have no immediate access to, and we cannot bring into consciousness.
UNCONSCIOUS LEVEL
What is included in attitude?
BEHAVIOR, FEELINGS, AND THE MIND
It is the most predominant assumption of the RCT.
RATIONALITY
What does Unconscious Level include?
REPRESSED FEELINGS, HIDDEN MEMORIES, HABITS, THOUGHTS, DESIRES, AND REACTIONS
What are the 3 Provinces of Mind?
ID, EGO, SUPEREGO
It contains the thoughts of which you are currently aware of. (e.g. logic and reasoning)
CONSCIOUS LEVEL
It is the “executive”. Its primary job is to meditate/balance the demands of the id and the outer forces of reality. It is the center of the reason, reality testing, and common sense. It is governed by the Reality Principle.
EGO
Describe Sigmund Freud.
- FATHER OF PSYCHOANALYSIS
- HAD A JEWISH BACKGROUND, THOUGH AVOWED ATHEIST.
- HAD A MEDICAL BACKGROUND; WANTED TO DO “NEUROPHYSIOLOGIC RESEARCH”.
- HAD A PRIVATE PRACTICE IN NERVOUS AND BRAIN DISORDERS.
It is the view that people behave as they do because they believe that performing their chosen actions has more benefits than costs.
RATIONAL CHOICE THEORY
It is the ability of individuals to ultimately take actions.
INDIVIDUALISM
What are the Strengths of Rational Choice Theory?
GENERALITY, PARSIMONY (CHEAPNESS), PREDICTIVE
It is when individuals choose their actions optimally, given their individual preferences as well as the opportunities or constrains with which the individuals face.
OPTIMALITY
It is an amount that has to be paid or spent to buy or obtain something.
COST
It is the oldest and most primitive psychic energy, representing the biological foundations of personality. It is concerned only with satisfying personal desire, and the actions taken are based on the Pleasure Principle (motivates the organism to seek pleasure).
ID
It is the “ideal”. It is the consequence pf the oedipal drama. It is the moral arm of the personality, corresponding to one’s conscience and bids the psychic apparatus to pursue idealistic goals and perfection.
SUPEREGO
