Traditional society, Pre-conditions to take off, Take off, Drive to maturity and Age of mass consumption.
What did Rostow believe that poor countries were just versions of?
He believed that poor countries were just primitive versions of western countries. “Helping the rest become like the west”.
What is the ‘desirable’ goal of the model and what is the problem with it?
Age of mass consumption is the desirable goal but it can be unsustainable.
Which stages of Rostow’s theory do top-down development projects refer to?
‘Take off’ and ‘drive to maturity’.
How are top-down development projects often financed?
They’re often financed by loans from banks.
Who would usually make key decisions related to top-down schemes?
The government and any external groups involved.
