Two Brothers
The company was founded in 1996 by brothers Jim and Jason Ebel, who run the Brewer’s Coop homebrew supply store and Tap House restaurant at the Warrenville site. Windy City Distribution, their distribution company, delivers to bars in the Illinois and Wisconsin area. The original brewery was designed around the brewhouse, a 15 barrel system produced in Vancouver and designed by Jason based on the traditional 3-vessel brewhouses of Germany. Jim and Jason were both passionate about Hefeweizen style beers, and the brewery’s design was intended to aid in the brewing of this world class beer. The rest of the brewery equipment was mostly donated! The Ebel brother’s grandfather, a retired dairy farmer, donated his bulk milk tanks, which were quickly converted to fermenters. The aging tanks were dairy cream tanks. Two Brothers Brewing Company sold its first keg in March of 1997.

Founders
Canal Street Brewing Co. was founded in Grand Rapids in 1997 by Mike Stevensand Dave Engbers, home brewingenthusiasts who had recently graduated from college. The company was named after a Grand Rapids area where in 1800s several breweries were located on Canal Street, now Monroe Avenue. The beer bottle’s labels originally included an old black and white photo of the original Canal Street breweries with the word “Founders” above it. Thus the company became known as Founders Brewing Company. Since the mid-2000s, it has become one of the most prominent breweries in Michigan, expanding its market to 25 states and its production capacity to 340,000 barrels per yearFounders was the 30th largest US craft brewery by sales volume in 2012 and 41st largest US brewery by sales volume in 2012. As of 2013, two of its beers, Kentucky Breakfast Stout (KBS) and Canadian Breakfast Stout (CBS), were ranked among BeerAdvocate’s top 10 beers, with CBS ranked as the 4th best beer in the world by user reviews.
Pipeworks
Pipeworks began as the brainchild of Beejay Oslon and Garrit Lewis, who were homebrewers that met while working at West Lakeview Liquors in Chicago. The two were educated in larger scale brewing at theDe Struise BreweryinOostvleteren,Belgium. In 2011, the pair began an online fundraising campaign to raise the capital needed to build the brewery, which would be located in Chicago’sBucktownneighborhood.Olsen and Lewis planned specifically to build a smaller brewery that veered from the conventional course followed by most commercial breweries: they would not make the same exact beer twice. This concept, which is known in the industry asgypsy brewing, became conceptualized as somewhat of hybrid at the fledgling brewery, given that that style of brewing is usually done on borrowed equipment. The duo also took an unorthodox approach in the building of the brewery, raising over $30,000 (USD) through internet donations viaKickstarter. In late January, 2013, Pipeworks was awardedRateBeer’s ‘Best New Brewery’ distinction for 2012.
