L2 - Overview Flashcards
What type of stability is paired with each aircraft motion? and what are the associated control surfaces?
Longitudunal - Pitch - Elevators
Lateral - Roll - Ailerons
Directional - Yaw - Rudder
What is the centre of pressure?
Same as centre of lift, the point at which the overall upwards force acts. This changes
What is the aerodynamic centre for the wing?
The point at which moment remains constant for a range of angles of attack. Constant. About 1/4 of the wing chord
Define Stability?
The tendancy to return to equilibrum after a perturbance.
Describe trimmed flight?
When the sum of all forces and moments equal zero. Aircraft is in equilibrum.
What is the difference between static and dynamic stability?
Static stability considers the aircrafts intial response after perturbance (tendancy to return to equilibrum) and Dynamic stability considers the motion changes over time.
Describe neutral static stability?
When the aircaft hold its position after a disturbance.
