L19 - Synaptic Plasticity Flashcards
What are the two types of memory
Implicit or procedural memory
Explicit or declarative memory
What are the things that make up declarative memory
Semantic such as facts
Procedural such as events
How do we learn, what is learning?
Learning is the response of the brain to environmental changes and involves adaptive changes in synaptic connectivity which in turn alter behaviour
Can you explain the diagram of where a circle is presented to the neurons as stimulus and why partial parts of the circle can still trigger the neurons
Activation of the cell assembly by stimulus
Reverberating activity continues activation after the stimulus is removed
Hebbian modification strengthen the reciprocal connections between neurons that are active at the same time
The strength and connections mean even partial activation leads to complete activation
What is Hebb’s rule ?
When an axon a, is near enough to excite a cell be, and repeatedly takes part in firing it there is a growth process/metabolic changed such A’s efficiency increases
what are the two rules of synaptic modification?
One. Neurons that fire together wired together
Two. Neurons that fire out of sync lose the link
