L18-Hypertension, hypotension and therapeutic intervention Flashcards
1
Q
What is an example of an ace inhibitor and how does it work?
A
lisinopril is an example and it works by Inhibiting ACE so angiotensin cannot be converted to angiotensin II and therefore cannot increase blood volume or increase TPR
2
Q
What is an example of an angiotensin receptor antagonist?
A
Losartan
3
Q
What is an example of Calcium channel blockers and how do they work?
A
Amlodipine is an example and the decrease TPR by preventing smooth muscle contraction of the arterioles
4
Q
What are the side effects of calcium channel blockers?
A
They decrease GIT activity as they affect smooth muscle
5
Q
How can the drugs for hypertension be summarised?
A
ABCD ACE inhibitors and receptor antagonists Beta blockers Calcium channel blockers Diuretics
