12
Q

how do disintegration work? 2 ways?

A
  • -increase porosity and wettablitiy- Disintegrant may increase the porosity and wettability of the compressed tablet then Gastrointestinal fluids penetrate to the bulk of the tablet and break it up
  • -May occur by swelling in the presence of aqueous fluids, thus increasing the internal pressure within the tablet

16
Q

what is an adsorbents?

A

These materials are used whenever required to include a liquid or semisolid components.

17
Q

what is a sweetening agent?

A

added to control the taste, and very important in with bitter drugs and chewable tablet

18
Q

what is a colouring agent?

A

added to improve the appearance of the tablet or to IDENTIFY the finished product

19
Q

what is a surface-active agent?

A

added to enhance the wettability of hydrophobic tablets and aids the rate of disintegration.

20
Q

what needs to be done to manufacture tablets by wet granulation?

A
  1. Mixing of the therapeutic agents with the powdered excipients (excluding lubricant) into the powder mixer
  2. Homogeneous mixing is essential throughout the mixture
  3. The mixing is better if the average particle sizes are similar
21
Q

what are the different types of industrial mixers?

A
  • Rotating drug mixer

- high speed mixer
