Key in terms of emergency but debatable if it is the most efficient mean to address undernutrition

  • Costly, especially because of transportation and logistics
  • Time consuming
  • Country puts less effort on solving food problem is food aid is constantly given

Donors goes to country, buy food and go to area where it is needed
Better because:
○ Faster (especially for landlocked countries
○ Cheaper
○ Potential local market-bolstering effects

A

Provide nutrition supplementation
Decreases child death and stunning
· Fortification = adding micronutrition to stable food during processing
Distribute through supermarkets
-Flavor is altered and consumer do not want to consume goods
-Compounds used to fortify foods may not be stable and can be lost during processing or storage
· Biofortification = biologically alter crops to be more nutritious
