what is conformity
when someone changes their behaviour, attitudes or beliefs to be in line with the majority
due to pressure from majority
what is compliance
when an individual changes their behaviour publicly to be in line with the majority
no change in private behaviour
only conforms when the group is present
superficial and temporary
what is internalisation
when someone adjust their behaviour publicly and privately to be in line with the majority
examines own behaviour based on others and decides that majority is correct
deeper than compliance and more permanent
what is identification
when an individuals accepts social influence to be associated with a role model or social group
they believe they feel connected to the role model/group by adopting their behaviour
