What does the term ‘Ecosystems’ mean?
Ecosystems is a community of plants and animals that interact with each other and their local environment.
Define a Biome?
A biome is a very large ecosystem.
Define a Biosphere?
A biosphere is a collective biomes, all the biomes together.
Give examples of the different types of biomes?
Tropical Biome, Coniferous Biome, Tundra Biome and a Desert Biome.
What does a type of biome depend on?
Temperature and Seasonality, The amount of rainfall, Altitude and Geology and soils.
Why do we have world biomes?
The collective biomes, biosphere, produces goods for the residents such as food, medicines and raw material.
What happens to the latitude as you move from the equator?
The latitude changes.
How can temperature affect the biome location?
The average temperature is important as well as other factors such as whether the biome will freeze or what the length of the growing season is.
Describe what the temperature and rainforest is like at the tropical biomes.
The temperature is hot and there is a heavy level of rainfall.
How have the trees adapted to the coniferous biomes?
Trees are adapted to the cold with needle-like leaves.
What is a desert biome?
Deserts are closer to tropics of Cancer and Capricorn. The sun rays are concentrated making it very hot in the day.
What does fetch mean?
Fetch means is the distance the wind can travel with no other disturbances (e.g. Mountains)
