L1 - Eukaryotic Cells Flashcards
Define Cytosol
The part of the cytoplasm that isn’t held by any of the organelles in the cell
Define cytoplasm
The part of the cell which is contained within the entire cell membrane
What is the microvilli?
What does it do?
in some cells the cell membrane is folded into finger like projections called microvilli
it provides a large surface area for absorption
commonly found in the lining of the intestine to help absorb nutrients (mainly glucose)
What is the Lumen?
the inside space of a tubular structure,
such as an artery or intestine
What cell structures are only found in plant cells?
3
cell wall
chloroplasts
starch storage granules
What structure holds ribosomes?
rough endoplasmic reticulum
where in the cell is ribonucleic acid (RNA) made?
in the nucleolus
What organelle will a muscle cell have in large quantities to supply lots of energy?
mitochondria
What is the name of the material consisting of uncoiled chromosomes?
chromatin
name 3 organelles with a double membrane
nucleus
mitochondria
chloroplasts
what vesicles are produced by the golgi apparatus?
lysosomes
name the stacks of membranes in chloroplasts
grana
name the projections of cytoplasm between plant cells
plasmodesmata
what material forms plant cell walls?
cellulose
what material forms fungi cell walls?
chitin
