Anorexia Nervosa (4)
A)refusal to maintain body weight at or above a minimal normal weight for age and health
B)intense fear of gaining weight or becoming fat, even though underweight
C) disturbance in the way in which one’s body weight or shape is experienced
D) postmenarcheal females, amenorrhea, absence of at least three consecutive menstrual cycles
AN- Restricting type
person has not regularly engaged in binge-eating or purging behavior
AN- binge-eating/purging type
person regularly engaged in binge-eating or purging behavior (vomiting, laxatives, diuretics, etc.)
Bulimia Nervosa (5)
A) recurrent episodes of binge eating
-eating in discrete period of time (within any 2 hour period) with a large amount of food
-sense of lack of control over eating during the episode
B) inappropriate behavior to avoid weight gain (vomiting, laxatives, etc.)
C) occurs at least twice a week for 3 months
D) self evaluation influenced by body shape and weight
E) disturbance does not occur exclusively during AN
BN - purging type
self-induced vomiting misuse of laxatives diuretics enmeias etc
BN- non purging type
inappropriate compensatory behaviors- fasting, excessive exercise
binge eating disorder
binges with no compensation

Predisposing factors
individual risk factors: biolgoical, premorbid obesity, IDMM, psychological
family risk factors: ED, disorder or alcoholism in family, culture
sociocultural RF: cultural norms, slimness ideal
maintaining factors
cognitive and family reinforcements
effects of malnutrition
lack of social skills, isolation, depression, change in the family structure etc
other selective models of eating disorders
depression model, addiction model, ED as obsessive-compulsive syndrome, dissociation hypothesis
Treatment of eating disorders
pharmacothearpy (antidepressants) nutritive rehab psychotherapy psychoeducation and self help integrative programs
