L1 Flashcards
What is the objectives of HX
note down complaints and visual issue from both child and parents. track and document the issue and aid on investigation during examination
What is the objective of VA and refraction
VA measure how well they can see (rapid development of the eye), and refraction is to check on child refractive status and best corrected MVA. and these are compared back to the age normative norm
Objective of Preliminary and BV
Examine the BV staus and compare back to the normative norm. important for documentation of visual function and development
Objective of ocular health
to rule out any ocular and posterior condition which may affect visual fn and development
objective of visual perception evaluation
assess for learning difficulty
objective of additional test: IOP, VF, CV
better understanding and rule out abnormalities
why is eye examination asap impt?
early detection of ocular or vision anomalies will allow timely intervention and better tx prognosis
Describe the ocular development of the eye
cornea HVID increase
cornea flattens
lens flattens
at birth pupil is miotic, sluggish reflex
at birth retina is fairly developed
when will VA reach adult state and what type of VA is tested - before and after it reach adult state.
Adult: 3-5 years old.
birth - 3 : near va only
>3 : near and distance VA
what is the cause of VA maturation
- maturation of size and shape of photoreceptors
- improvement in eye movement and accommodation
- development of cortical connection and processes
- improve organisation of photoreceptors
what make VA worse
increase Pupil size
rx
amblyopia
what is the additional test to perform for paeds?
OMM, CT, NPC, stereopsis, CT
AA is not mandatory - as it is not well developed!
