What is the name of the outer most orbit
Valence shell
Electrons move through easily
Conductors
Electrons can’t travel through
Insulators
What direction do electrons flow
Negative to positive
What is current?
The movement of free electrons along a conductor
What is conventional flow?
Positive flowing through to negative
1 amp is equal to?
6.214 x 10^8
What is current measured in
Amps ‘A’
Different conductors
Copper, brass, silver, carbon, impure water, aluminium, platinum, mercury, gold
Insulators
Wood, paper, rubber, mica, porcelain, woven fabrics, plastic, glass
Factors that affect resistance
Length of conductor
The cross section area
Temperature
What is ohms law?
Ohms law states that a current flowing through a conductor is directly proportional to true applied voltage across it (providing the temperature stays the same) and is inversely proportional to the resistance.
How do you find voltage
I x R
How do you find resistance?
V/I
How do you find current?
V/R
