1
Q
What is the Ideal Gas equation? What are the SI Units in it?
A
pV=nRT
p: Pa or N m^-2
V: m^3
n: mol
T: Kelvin
2
Q
What are properties of ideal gas?
A
- i.m.f. of attract n btw gas particles negligible
- total vol. of gas particles negligible compared to vol. of container
- gas particles in continuous random linear motion
- all collisions btw gas particles perfectly elastic so no KE lost on collision
(real gas have opposite properties)
3
Q
What is Dalton’s Law?
A
In a mix of gas that don’t react chemically, total pa of mix = sum of partial pa exerted by each gases
4
Q
What conditions allow real gas to tend towards ideal gas behaviour? Explain
A
- Low Pa
gas particles far apart & vol of particles less significant compared to container -> less significant imf of attractions - Very high temperature
gas particles hv high KE, so imf of attractions easily overcome, bcome less significant
(opp. conditions mean deviate more from ideality)
