Q

What is an IDL

A

Initialization Data Load. L16 network operating info is defined here and contains the NDL along with additional parameters used by the system external to the L16 terminal. Must be set in JMPS.

Q

What is MIDS?

A

Multifunction Information Distribution System (Low Volume Terminal). Provides jam-resistant, secure, tactical digital data and voice, combat ID, and relative navigation with low probability of exploitation.

15
Q

How does L16 interact with AOP?

A

The brains of the system. Controls and displays all L16 functions, L16 voice control, raw INS and GPS position to MIDS via LMA, ordnance inventory, tactical data management, system management control, comms system controller.

16
Q

What is LMA?

A

L16 Middleware application. It communicates directly with MIDS and the AOP. Manages initialization, control, monitoring, and BIT and fault isolation. Provides processing necessary to generate L16 messages for xmsn. Extracts data from L16 messages received by MIDS. Implements TADIL-J receive/transmit rules between L16 remote and AOP local tracks. Maintains the L16 remote track database and assigns L16 track numbers.

17
Q

How does L16 interact with Data Fusion

A

Provides automation for contact/track data management to improve situational awareness and reduce overall workload for the operators. Fuses L16 tracks and L16 EW contacts as another type of sensor report. Allows operator to edit tracks. Manages L16 track data conflict processing. Manual correlation/de-correlation of fused tracks. L16 correlation and data registration rules. Assists operators in managing large amounts of data.

18
Q

Red/Red

A

L16 is not present in helo, hasn’t been initialized, or is in the process of initializing or has been zeroized

19
Q

Yellow/Red

A

One or more traffic encryption keys (TEKs) are loaded with a valid date. NOTE: status arrows for MIDS BU2 of yellow/red may be erroneously displayed when the master key encryption key (MKEK) is loaded but before a valid date is set. Status arrows for MIDS BU2 may randomly flash yellow/red even with no keys loaded

20
Q

Yellow/Yellow

A

L16 net entry is in process. Sync hasn’t been achieved

21
Q

Yellow/Green

A

MIDS is established as NTR but without communication with any other participants

22
Q

Green/Yellow

A

Coarse sync

23
Q

Green/Green

A

Fine Sync

24
Q

JNL

A

JTIDS network Library

25
Q

TADIL-J

A

Tactical digital information link-J

26
Q

JTIDS

A

Joint Tactical Information Distribution System

27
Q

NTR

A

Network time reference. Establishes timing for the network and is the reference with which all other units must achieve and maintain FINE SYNC in order to remain in the network

28
Q

TDMA

A

Time division multiple access. Uses time interlacing to provide multiple and apparently simultaneous communications nets
