Composite Warfare Commanders Flashcards
What are the 3 tiers to the composite warfare structure
Warfare Commanders, Functional Group Commanders, Coordinators
Warfare Commanders
Established for extended periods of time; an officer to whom the OTC may delegate authority to conduct some or all offensive/defensive functions of the force is the Composite Warfare Commander (the warfare commanders work under them); can autonomously initiate action and deploy weapons/sensors
Functional Group Commanders
Established to perform designated command functions that are generally more limited in scope and duration than warfare commanders; no fixed list of functional groups, but there are common ones; can autonomously initiate action and deploy weapons/sensors
Coordinators
Don’t initiate autonomous actions; asset and resource managers; specific coordinators relevant to us: air resource element coordinator (AREC = CO of CVN = ROMEO) they create the airplan, helicopter element coordinator (HEC aka Gooey), Submarine operations coordinating authority (SOCA aka sub guy Josh), submarine element coordinator (SEC aka sub guy Josh)
Air and Missile Defense Commander
WHISKEY. Captain of Shotgun Cruiser. Direct defensive actions taken to destroy, nullify or reduce the effectiveness of hostile air threats
Information Operations Warfare Commander
QUEBEC. O6 on the CVN. Intel guy
Sea Combatant Commander
ZULU. On the CVN = DESRON. Can function as both Xray and Sierra if needed
Antisubmarine Warfare Commander
X-RAY. Defends against sub threats.
Surface Warfare Commander
SIERRA
Strike Warfare Commander
PAPA aka CAG. Controls the air wing. Main focus is land targets, but can work with other warfare commanders for air/surface threats
TACOM
Tactical Command. Whoever has overall command over 77’s aircraft (CAG). CTF 74 owns all 7th fleet subs (Can be transferred to the strike group for integrated ops, but can always be taken back). Whoever has TACOM has responsibility for waterspace management (could be SOCA if delegated)
TACON
Tactical Control. Who is controlling us at the current time (CAG or CO of CRUDES). For subs, if CSG has TACOM, SOCA has TACON. Any other time CTF 74 has TACOM and TACON.
OPCON
Operational Control. Subs are always owned by CTF 74 so they can always lend them out to CSG and take them back. CAG always retains OPCON of us
