Is there any way you can determine how much fuel you are predicted to burn per hour for this flight?

BURNOFF FUEL / Time ( takeoff to Landing)
Have the crew member locate each item that is required to be listed on the flight release. [Consider having each crew member alternate answers]

L. Original Dispatch Release, Re-Release or Amendment of Dispatch Release
1) An original release is required to be issued by a dispatcher before a flight departs:
a) An originating airport, or
b) Any airport after making an unscheduled landing including a return to the origin airport.
2) The dispatch release must contain, or have attached to it, at least the following information (14 CFR Part 121.687):
• Identification number of the aircraft
• Trip or flight number
• Departure airport, intermediate stops, destination airports, and alternate airports
• Statement of the type of operation (IFR / VFR)
• Minimum fuel supply, and
• Weather reports, forecasts for the destination, intermediate, and alternate airports
• Open MEL and/or CDL items on the DMI log as outlined in Chapter 06 Airworthiness (Activate Flight paragraph).
You notice that one of the flight attendant’s names listed on the release does not match your current crew. Give at least two ways you can amend the release?
(Ref. FOM Chapter 5)
- An amendment to a release is an official change to the parameters under which a flight was dispatched. Any amendments require concurrence between the PIC
and dispatcher
a) Because an amendment requires concurrence, both the PIC and dispatcher must jointly agree on the parameters being amended to safely initiate or continue a flight. After concurrence, both the PIC and dispatcher must record
the amendment.
b) Release amendments can be received via digital copy available in FliteView, via ACARS, or via verbal communication with the dispatcher over the phone or radio.
c) When a paper copy of the release is utilized, an amended release may be printed or the amendment recorded by striking through entries that no longer
apply, then entering the new information adjacent to the old entries
What is the latest time you can push back from the gate without amending this release?
(Ref. FOM Chapter 5)
Preflight Amendments (prior to the point of dispatch)
(1) The flight departs an originating station after a delay of greater than 2 hours to provide the latest weather and NOTAM briefing.
If you were uncertain about whether a situation required an amendment to the release, how could you verify using your EFB?

When is a takeoff alternate required?
(Ref. FAR 121.617, FOM Chapter 5)
E. Alternates and Alternate Requirements
1) When the weather minimums at the airport of takeoff are below the landing minimums for that airport as shown in the Ops Specs, the release lists a takeoff alternate. For two-engine aircraft, this alternate is one hour from the departure airport at normal cruise speed in still air with one engine inoperative.
Explain when a destination alternate is required. Why is there an alternate listed for this flight?
(Ref. CFR 121.619; FOM Chapter 5, 7)
E. Alternates and Alternate Requirements
3) Each dispatch release under IFR lists at least one alternate airport for each destination airport. When the weather conditions forecast for the destination and first alternate airport are marginal, at least one additional alternate must be specified. Marginal weather is defined as anytime the weather conditions at the destination and first alternate are at or forecast to be, at the estimated time of arrival, equal to the lowest authorized minima for that destination and alternate airport.
4) No alternate airport is required when, for at least one hour before and after the estimated time of arrival at the destination airport, the appropriate weather reports or forecasts, or any combination thereof, indicate that:
a) The ceiling will be at least 2,000 feet above the airport elevation and visibility for that airport is forecast to be at least 3 miles.
- 7
3) An alternate airport is required to be listed when RwyCC values less than 3 are reported in any third of the intended landing runway at the destination. - 13
4) A destination alternate is required when the following is forecast, regardless of the intensity:
a) Freezing drizzle (FZDZ)
b) Freezing rain (FZRA)
c) Heavy Snow (+SN)
d) Hail, 1/4 inch and greater in size (GR)
e) Freezing Fog (FZFG)
f) Unknown precipitation (UP)
If you cannot recall all of the conditions that require a destination alternate, where can you find these requirements using your EFB?

If you have both a destination and second alternate listed on the release, which one is used by the Dispatcher to determine your FAR reserve fuel?
(Ref. FOM Chapter 5; CFR 121.639)
H. Fuel Requirements
1) No person may dispatch or take off an airplane unless it has enough fuel:
a) To fly to the airport to which it is dispatched;
b) Thereafter, to fly to and land at the most distant alternate airport (where required) for the airport to which dispatched; and
c) Thereafter, to fly for 45 minutes at normal cruising fuel consumption.
